August 2018 (*Updated October 2022)

Well, it’s official. I have breast cancer. I admit this is a totally a do as I say not as I do a situation where I’m providing you with tips for waiting for breast biopsy results that I should’ve practiced myself.

Last night was excruciating waiting for the biopsy results. I cried in bed and prayed that I didn’t have cancer. I’m actually not much of a praying kind of person. I only pray for really important things because I figure if God exists, they have better things to do than listen to little old me. But last night, I prayed. I prayed hard.

I stayed up thinking about what my three-year-old son’s life would be like without his mommy, my husband without his wife/best friend, and my only sister who would be virtually all alone since our parents had already passed away from their own cancers.

At some point, I must’ve cried myself to sleep because I don’t recall falling asleep and my very puffy eyes this morning would definitely indicate that’s what happened.

7 Tips for Waiting for Breast Biopsy Results

Tip #1.

Talk to someone you trust or write down all your feelings in a journal. But get it out of your head and heart so you can get some peace for the moment.

Tip #2.

Exercise. Do yoga. Go for a walk. Meditate. Do something a little physical to work out those nerves.

I went into the breast cancer center where they gave me the news and a binder of resources (counselors, breast cancer info, etc.). Even though I talk about crying here all the time, I’m actually not a very emotional person. So it surprised me that I started to cry as soon as the nurse told me that I have breast cancer. I was actually embarrassed. Weird, I know! She was very kind and gave me a small box of tissues (hospital-grade, very thin and harsh).

I regained my composure and managed to smile at her as she escorted me out. She said that as far as cancers go, breast cancer is highly treatable.

But I was still in shock…am still in shock. I drove home and scraped the side of my car getting into the garage, which brings me to the next tip.

Tip #3.

Bring someone to your biopsy results appointment with you and have them drive. Hopefully, you’ll get good news that you don’t have cancer but just in case.

Tip #4.

Go back to Tip #2. Do something physical to work out the nerves pent up in you.

Tip #5.

Take a deep breath and know that you’ve got this. You don’t have to do all the things.

Tip #6.

Focus on just the next step. Is it time to eat? Eat. Is it time to pick up the kids? Do that. Is it time to crawl into a hole and cry? It’s okay. You can do that too. Just don’t stay there too long. That gets boring and the lighting isn’t good in there. 😉

Tip #7.

I want to assure you that you’re not alone in this journey. Regardless of the outcome of your biopsy results, remember that you are strong and capable of facing whatever lies ahead. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, scared, and uncertain, but don’t forget to reach out to your loved ones for support. Take one step at a time, focusing on the present moment, and remember that there is a community of people who understand and are here to help. Don’t hesitate to access the resources available to you, including my free guide, as you prepare for the next chapter. Stay strong and take care.
