Did you just get a breast cancer diagnosis or are you waiting on one? It’s torture isn’t it, not knowing what’s going to happen??
Breast Cancer Diagnosis
I hate to be all about cancer all the time but it’s incredibly difficult not to be. It’s especially difficult being a detail-oriented person because there are so very many details to be concerned with when it comes to cancer.
If you’re like me, you’ve got lots of questions like…
How big is the tumor?
Has it spread to my lymph nodes?
What are my chances of survival?
Is it genetic?
Will I need a mastectomy or can I get a lumpectomy? Which one should I get?
How long will recovery take?
Who will take care of my child?
Who will take care of me?
Will all my hair fall out?
Should I get a wig and when?
Can I still have children after this?
Will I die?
One of the first people you’ll meet if you have to go through something like this is the radiologist. They’re the ones who will go over your x-ray results. Unfortunately for the young man who was my radiologist, he was the first person to field all of my many questions. Poor fella actually said, “So are there any more questions I can’t answer for you?”
I know this is a very scary time for you. You want someone to tell you that you’re going to be alright. This is not going to kill you. At least, that’s what I wanted to hear.
And I even did get to hear it from several people!
The truth is that nobody knows. But that was true BEFORE breast cancer too!
Look, I know all too well that getting diagnosed with breast cancer sucks. And yes you’re almost definitely going to lose your hair for a little while and you might get some neuropathy in your fingers and toes too. But the chances are good that you’re not going to die from breast cancer.
I can’t guarantee that but no one can. Honestly, that’s just life. If you live it, you’re taking some chances all the time.
But on this journey that is life, which has become the breast cancer part of that journey, you need tools to get in control of all the things.
